Discover Empire Café

If you find yourself wandering around Montrose in Houston, there’s a spot that never fails to impress locals and visitors alike: Empire Café. Nestled at 1732 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77098, United States, this café has become a cornerstone for anyone craving a relaxed yet vibrant dining experience. Walking through its doors, you’re immediately greeted by a warm, eclectic atmosphere that blends modern décor with a touch of vintage charm. From my own visits, I’ve noticed that the balance between casual comfort and thoughtful design makes it a perfect spot for both brunch with friends and a solo coffee break.

The menu at Empire Café is as diverse as it is satisfying. Breakfast enthusiasts will appreciate dishes like the perfectly poached eggs over avocado toast or the hearty omelets packed with fresh vegetables and local cheeses. For lunch, the café excels with sandwiches, salads, and daily specials that rotate seasonally, ensuring there’s always something new to try. I personally recommend the turkey and brie sandwich; the combination of flavors is consistently fresh and the portion is generous. The kitchen’s attention to detail is evident not only in the taste but also in the presentation, which reflects a commitment to high-quality ingredients and culinary care.

One standout aspect of Empire Café is its coffee and beverages. They source their beans from well-known roasters in Houston, ensuring each cup is rich and aromatic. During my visits, I’ve noticed a strong following of regulars who swear by the café’s lattes and cappuccinos, and it’s easy to see why. According to a 2023 survey by the Specialty Coffee Association, cafés that emphasize bean quality and barista skill see a 30% higher customer return rate, and Empire Café seems to exemplify this principle. For tea lovers, the selection of herbal and specialty teas complements the menu perfectly.

Customer experience here is another highlight. The staff is genuinely friendly and attentive, often remembering regulars’ preferences, which adds a personal touch that makes each visit memorable. In one instance, a friend of mine who is gluten-intolerant found multiple options clearly marked on the menu, reflecting the café’s thoughtful approach to dietary needs. This attention to detail contributes to a welcoming environment that keeps people coming back.

Reviews from local food critics and online platforms consistently praise Empire Café for its innovative dishes and cozy atmosphere. Renowned Houston food critic Robb Walsh once noted that the café “manages to feel simultaneously homey and sophisticated, a rare feat in a city with countless dining options.” Additionally, community engagement is strong; the café frequently hosts small events and supports local artists, which reinforces its reputation as a neighborhood staple.

The location at 1732 Westheimer Rd is convenient, with easy parking and a vibrant surrounding area full of shops, galleries, and other eateries. This prime spot makes Empire Café an ideal destination whether you’re running errands, meeting friends, or simply looking for a comfortable place to enjoy a meal. I’ve found that even during peak hours, the flow of service remains smooth, and the ambiance never feels rushed, allowing diners to fully enjoy the experience.

Overall, visiting Empire Café is more than just a meal-it’s an experience of quality, community, and creativity. From the expertly prepared dishes and beverages to the inviting staff and atmosphere, every detail reflects a thoughtful dedication to customer satisfaction. Whether you’re exploring Montrose or looking for a local favorite to revisit, Empire Café delivers an unforgettable combination of taste, comfort, and charm.

  • We went today for breakfast and loved it! My favorite is the pastry. I got a morning glory muffin, a banana scone and a jalapeño bacon scone, love them all! I’ve been looking for savory scones and carrot cake that’s not too sweet. I just found them!!

  • I’ve been coming to this Montrose gem for over 15 years, even while living all over the greater Houston area. Me and my wife have been visiting since we first started dating, and it’s still one of our favorite spots. The food is always fresh and consistent, which is rare to find these days. While I’ve never actually tried their coffee, I constantly hear great things about it from friends and other customers. The star for us, without question, is the Tollhouse cake. You can buy it by the slice, and every bite truly feels like a slice of heaven. It’s rich, decadent, and worth coming here just for that alone. The café has its own parking lot, which is a huge plus in Montrose, although it can get busy depending on the time of day. They also have bike parking on the side, which I love because on weekend mornings I enjoy biking over, grabbing a table on the patio, and soaking in the good vibes. The patio is also handicap accessible through its side entrance, though the inside can be a little cramped if you’re moving around with mobility devices. After so many years, I can confidently say there’s a reason this place is still open and loved by so many — they’re just really good at what they do. Whether you’re here for breakfast, lunch, dessert, or just a quick snack, you’re going to leave happy.

  • Empire Cafe is my “go to” spot for anything from a great breakfast, a quick cup of coffee, a delicious dessert, or one of their daily specials. The kitchen is consistent, food is flavorful and well-presented, and the atmosphere is always great any time of the day. They have great breakfast, sandwiches, pastas, pizza, etc. Many of the employees have worked here for years, which tells you a lot!

  • Ever since I saw this restaurant on GoodTaste with Tanji, I have looked forward to trying it out, and we were not disappointed. We went after church, but got there just before the lunch menu so we waited for a few minutes because we wanted to try their pizza and I glad we did. We had the Americano pizza and Caesar salad, excellent.

  • Great food and atmosphere, went on a weekday 10am and it was relatively empty with quick service. Had their italian toast, huevos rancheros and shakshuka and it was great! Shakshuka was a little too pastey and less runny but still tasted solid. Loved it, would absolutely return! There is also (limited) empire cafe free parking available on the backside from westheimer
